Received my annual visit from my favorite ex-student and frequent contributor via her e-mails to this very teacher’s tumblr. She is an incredibly wise girl. She always was, but today, after explaining to me how much better off her high school would be if Vonnegut was forced on them all rather than irrelevant classics that only reinforce how much they hate reading to begin with, I realized that she’s not really even my ex-student anymore. She’s a person that I am fortunate to know & remain in touch with. She’s extraordinary, and if I had any part in that, I am pretty lucky.
