Band of Horses - Detlef Schrempf

For all the love I have towards this very spectacular band, I never could quite single out the emotion evoked from this album-which to my understanding, gets flak from critics for an array of reasons-particularly when it is compared to their initial release. I loved that one, too, but am a firm believer that the extent to which we enjoy is at least partially dependent on the circumstances surrounding that enjoyment.

And really great songs, like this one—-they permeate what we live. They embed, deep deep down, and save themselves in memories for days when you’ve been away for twelve hours, haven’t eaten in eight, & just finished singing page 2132039 of a contract on your first home. And the calm the song assumed that very first time you heard it-sneaks right back, unclenches those tiny fists, and gets you down the last road to home.

So take it as a song or a lesson to learn

And sometime soon be better than you were

If you say you’re gonna go, then be careful
And watch how you treat every living soul”
